“And as I partook of the fruit thereof it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy; wherefore, I began to be desirous that my family should partake of it also; for I knew that it was desirable above all other fruit.” (1 Nephi 8:12). One of the most wonderful things about Joy is that it multiplies and grows the more we share it. When Lehi partook of the fruit of the Tree of Life, his first thought after discovering its exceeding sweetness and desirability was not to keep it a secret and discourage others from finding it so that he could hoard it all to himself. As soon as he tasted it, he immediately thought of his family and how much joy they would feel from partaking of this fruit. This wasn’t an entirely selfless impulse, because if Lehi was able to bring joy to his family, then his own joy would grow and multiply as a result. Joy cannot be used up by oversharing it. The more it gets passed around, the stronger and more lasting it grows. I know that if we dedicate ourselves to sharing as much joy as we can with others, we will experience more joy than we could ever possibly imagine by trying to cling to our scraps of happiness without sharing.
