Exercising Faith

When we talk about faith, we often use the word exercise. Like physical exercise, exercising faith may be a lot harder and more painful the first few times if we haven't done it in a while and are spiritually out of shape. We are told to feast upon the words of Christ, but if, after we feast, we don't exercise our faith, those words are going to lay heavy on our souls. We need to nourish our spirits daily with the scriptures, but we also need to exercise our faith daily. When we exercise our muscles, we break down the old muscles and build up newer, stronger muscles. And when we exercise our faith, we break down our old, fearful, proud heart and build up a new, softer, more humble and more faith-filled heart. If we're exercising our bodies correctly, there should always be a little bit of a burn, even if we're in great shape. And if we're exercising our faith, our hearts should always burn a little inside us, even if we've come to trust the Lord with unshakeable faith. If our spirit is weaker than we'd like it to be, then we know the answer. We just need to exercise our faith daily and the strength will come in time.
