The Lord Comes Quickly

When the Lord talks about His coming, the adverb He uses is not soon but quickly. We sometimes say come soon and come quickly interchangeably but there is an important distinction. Soon typically means immediately or right away. When we pray, we usually hope that the Lord will answer us soon, immediately, right away. And while quickly can mean immediately or right away, it can also mean speedily or rapidly. It is this second meaning that the Lord is using when He says that He will come quickly. When we are waiting months or years for our trial to be over, quickly may seem a bitterly ironic word for us to rest our hopes on. However, when the Lord does finally answer our prayers, quickly is exactly the word that fits. We will be amazed at how quickly our problem gets resolved when the Lord finally removes the obstacles in our way. God has all power both in Heaven and in Earth. He can literally bend time and space to help us. He can so completely solve our problem in so little time that the only word we could use to describe His coming to our aid is quickly.
