Choose *This* Day
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15). I love this scripture but I want to focus on the phrase “choose you this day.” Joshua did not say choose now and forever, and don’t you dare ever slip up or go back on your choice. He said choose this day. He wasn’t talking about that specific day he gathered his people together. He was inviting his people then and us today now to choose this day to serve the Lord. It doesn’t matter what choices we made yesterday. And we need not concern ourselves with what choices we might make tomorrow. All that matters is that we choose this day to serve the Lord. And when this day is over and tomorrow becomes a new this day, then we can make that choice again. Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself to atone for and cover all of the yesterdays when we chose not to serve the Lord. And we can’t do anything about tomorrow until it comes. The only thing we have any control over is this day, and we can choose this day to serve the Lord, and that is and will always be enough.
