Physical and Spiritual Wounds
In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, one of the things that the Samaritan did to care for the man left on the side of the road was to pour in oil and wine. Wine is one of the emblems of the Sacrament and is symbolic of spiritual healing. Oil is used in the anointing and healing of the sick. The Samaritan saw to both his neighbor's physical wounds and his spiritual wounds. We cannot fully help one another if we focus only on the Spiritual or only on the physical. We ought to use every tool and resource available to us to make the lives of our brothers and sisters better, both spiritually and physically.
