Eternity Was Our Covering

"Therefore, eternity was our covering and our rock and our salvation," (Abraham 2:16). Abraham had a pretty rough start, having to travel from place to place, almost being sacrificed to false gods here, losing a brother to starvation there. He had to abandon his home again and again and start somewhere brand new. He could have easily become bitter and resentful. But instead of focusing on the earthly homes he was forced to abandon over and over, he focused on his eternal home. When he was naked and alone, eternity would be his covering. When he could not find a place to stand, eternity would be his rock. When his very life was threatened, eternity would be his salvation. We live in a sea of constant change. We lose possessions, friends, loved ones. We have to abandon jobs or lifelong dreams. We have to sacrifice the things we care most about. But we can have eternity cover our vulnerabilities. We can have eternity be the rock that we build upon. We can have eternity be our salvation. God demands much of us but He offers even more in return. He offers us everything. He offers us eternity.
