Search Diligently, Pray Always, And Be Believing

"Search diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good, if ye walk uprightly and remember the covenant wherewith ye have covenanted one with another." (D&C 90:24). The Lord has given us a very good formula for all things working together for our good. It may not always be obvious how things are "working together for our good" but if we search diligently to understand God's will and to see His hand in the details of our lives, then we will be able to have our eyes opened and see what great mercies He has prepared for us and we will be able to acknowledge that all things are working for our good. We must also pray always. Prayer is the act of bringing the will of the child in harmony with the will of the Father. The more we pray, the more our thoughts and ways become like God's thoughts and ways and the more we will be able to see as God sees and act as God acts and thus we will have more power to see that all things will work together for our good. The third thing we need to do is to be believing. Life is tough. We get knocked down, ignored, despised, used, abused. It can be hard to believe that anything is working towards our good. It can be hard to believe that any future goodness can make up for the past and current injustices that we are facing right now. But if we search diligently for God's handiwork in the details of our life, and if we pray to align our will with the Lord's, and if we choose to believe instead of choosing to doubt, and if we hold fast to the covenants we have made with the Lord and with each other, then we will see how all things work together for our good.
