“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Matthew 5:13). Salting the earth is an often symbolic act taken against an enemy by the conquerors to signify and/or curse a vanquished land so that nothing can ever grow or be rebuilt there ever again. As we work on sowing the salt of the covenant far and wide in the soil of the hearts of God's children, we are truly conquering Satan and his influence over the world. We are saturating our hearts and minds with so much salt that none of Satan's thorns or thistles or tares can take root and lead us down the wrong path. Only the true seeds of faith will be able to survive and thrive in our soil if we have taken the time to ensure that we have properly salted the earth. We are the salt of the earth and the Lord doesn't want us sitting safely and ineffectually on a shelf in the cupboard. He wants us thoroughly mixing our salt in the soil so it can convert the soil to such an extent that none of Satan’s noxious weeds will ever be able to take root again.
