“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:20-21). Our Heavenly Father has promised that if we remain faithful until the end and have repented and been forgiven of all our sins and fully taken upon us the name of Christ, that He will give us everything that He has. If we are thus rewarded with literally everything, then what would be our “treasures in heaven”? What more could we possibly need or want when we have already been given everything? “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God;” (D&C 18:10). The only treasures that could possibly have value when we have already been given everything are all of the souls of friends and family and perhaps even former enemies that we have loved and prayed for and served and invited to come unto Christ. “And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father! And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!” (D&C 18:15-16). To paraphrase another of the Savior's questions, What profiteth it a man if he should gain the whole world, even worlds beyond number, if he should lose the soul of even one precious friend or family member? I hope that we can all be a little more diligent in laying up for ourselves treasures in heaven by bringing souls unto Christ.
