*Become One* With Christ
I’ve always thought that becoming one with Christ is the process of aligning our hearts and our wills with Christ, but there’s actually a second meaning. It’s not just become “one with Christ” but also “become one” with Christ. What I mean by that is, as we come unto Christ and seek to do His will, Christ can make us one within ourselves. He can unite our often conflicting motivations and desires. He can heal and repair our broken hearts. Christ’s invitation to offer up a broken heart isn’t a commandment to deliberately break our hard heart as some act of penance. We offer up our broken heart because it has already been broken and Christ can put the pieces back together. He can make us whole again. He can make us One again. As we seek to become “One with Christ” and think as He would think and act as He would act, Christ, with His atoning power, can make us One, whole, complete. The closer we come to Christ, the more our desire to do evil will be changed to a desire to do good, the more our weaknesses will be turned into strengths, the more our doubts will transform into certainties. Every conflicting emotion and desire and hope will be brought into harmony. We’re not supposed to come unto Christ with every fiber of our being already 100% attuned to His will, He wants us to come as we are, with our doubts and our unbelief and our fears and our insincere hearts, and our reluctant sacrifices, and He will make us One, and we will be One with Him, and with His help.
