Covered By Mercy

The Ark of the Covenant was built in part to hold the Commandments Moses received from the Lord on Mount Sinai. The top or lid of the Ark is called the Mercy Seat. The Commandments are literally covered by mercy. Striving to keep the Commandments may at times seem hard or even impossible. It may require a lot of pain and sacrifice. We may get discouraged at how often our efforts are undermined by our own weakness. But we must always, always remember that the Commandments are wrapped up in love and mercy. God knows our struggles and He knows our weaknesses. He gives us Commandments because He knows that they are for our good, but His mercy is always surrounding us, like the two winged angels depicted on the Mercy Seat.
